Aardvark is a South African name which means earth pig. However, the aardvark itself looks like a pig by its body and snout but they have some common ancestors with elephants and golden moles. How Do They Look Alike:

They do look like pigs with a stout body and arched back. They have thin and long head along with long tubular ears which are generally held upright. Their back legs are longer than front legs with powerful spade-shaped claws and feet. The color of aardvarks is commonly yellowish-grey and their tails look muscular and around 70 cm in length.

Where Do They Live:

You will find plenty of aardvarks throughout the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa. This land is basically a part of the Saharan desert. As they are a nocturnal animal so have a tendency to sleep during the whole day and they come out at night for food. They live in burrows and especially during their breeding time, they live there for a long time. They do not frequently change their home rather they prefer changing their entrance.

What Do They Eat:

They are known for eating almost 50000 ants in just one night. Apart from that, they have spotted eating plants and American cucumber which are commonly known as aardvark cucumber. However, the relationship between them is very much symbiotic which eventually means the benefit of both species. The cucumber seeds are released in the ground while the aardvark gets food. Hence, this is their favorite food and after sunset when they generally step out from their burrows, they go a long way just to have their favorite food.

Which Predators Aardvark Have:

They are commonly known for preying animals like hunting dogs, leopards, lions, pythons and hyenas. They do have a sixth sense to hear the sound of the foot of its predators. If they feel like escaping, they basically run in zigzags or dig real fast. When you are not in a mood of escaping, they will strike with their tail, shoulders, and claws and have their food obviously. If some animal attacks the tunnel then they can easily seal the tunnel and attack.
