They Continue To Grow:

Well, a lot of people are not really known for the fact that an alligator generally grows throughout their lifetime. The male alligators are commonly 10 to 15 feet long while the females are slightly on the smaller side. However, old alligators tend to get quite large than normal and their average weight is approximately 1000 pounds.

They Have Teeth: American alligators have at least 74 to 80 teeth that too in their jaws. And when the teeth fall or wear down, they are more likely to grow again. It can have up to 2000 teeth in its whole life span.

It Has Two Kinds Of Walks: Well, it can obviously swim but apart from that, it can run, crawl and walk as well. They have two phases, one is a low walk and another one is the high walk. The long walk generally lifts its belly while the low walk is basically sprawling.

They Are Known As Ecosystem Engineers: They create small poles which is called alligator holes and this is an important part they play. The small holes contain water and they are beneficial for other animals during the dry season.

The Role Of Temperature: They generally have sex when the eggs can develop. If their eggs are exposed to a temperature around 93 degrees F then it becomes male and if the egg is exposed to temperature around 86 degrees F, it becomes female. Though they always have sex only when the temperature is perfect an intermediate temperature can give birth to males and females both.
