Scorpions are predatory Arachnidas who are living from 430 million years on the earth. They are more often related to mites, spiders, ticks, and other animals. Commonly found in desserts, the scorpions also live in some specific parts of the globe. Some of the known places are Brazilian forests, North Carolina, British Columbia, and the Himalayas. They are quite hardy and adaptable as arthropods. Pandinus is a popular type that belongs to the family Scorpionidae. Another popular example is the Southeast Asian genus Heterometrus. Interestingly, scorpions have approximately 1,750 described species today, and there are 13 families.

However, scorpions adapted to a changing time of environmental conditions, so they evolved a lot. Four hundred thirty million years ago, it was the Silurian period, when the oldest known scorpions lived. They are found from many fossil records, which have gone through researches. So, there are various types of scorpions, and all have a venomous sting. Though most of the scorpions are not a severe threat to humans or other animals, yet about 25 species can kill with the poisonous bite.

Pandinus: Scorpion Types

From the family of Scorpionidae, this one is a large-sized species. Interestingly, this species includes the pet scorpion type – the emperor scorpion. Though Pandinus can be found in most of the lands, tropical Africa and the Arabian Peninsula are the two places with the most of this kind. Introduced in 1876 by Tamerlan Thorell, these species became very popular in the world of research. Moreover, based on some of these subsequent researches, it has five subgenera. Yet, there is a lot of difference in today’s studies, which doubt whether these subgenera represent the natural groups of scorpions.

Presently, research finds that there are 21 species of Pandinus recognized yet. The Pandinus are black in color with very thin metasoma. The vesicle and stinger of these are also tiny, whereas the pedipalp pincers are massive. The venom if this type is not harmful as it is mild. However, a little pain like the bee sting is felt by most of the people. With long experience and skill, an expert can differentiate between the different types of scorpions as some look similar. Genera is a type, which is quite identical to the Pandinus.
